I love the type of play with Civizliations, but a friend of mine and 3 others recommended WoWC.
I like strategy games.
But the WoWC world looks pretty damn cool, saw some videos of it online.
Like the Lord of the Rings, medieval type stuff. So that gives you an idea of what I like.
What do you guys recommend I try/get first.
I'm not a huge gamer, but kinda getting sick of this first person shooter I've been playing for 2.5years now.
Can you play Civ-IV online, against others? I'm assuming that it's the kind of game, that really has no end either, as does WoWC, right?
Thanks guys

Civ4

And if you think WoW looks good, you really, really need to look at other games.

I particularly don't like turn based strategy games so I couldn't stand Civilization IV. If you have played previous Civilization games and liked it, then why not?

World of Warcraft would be fun if you have a few friends to play with, my roommate and friends play WOW all the time and while they think it's fun, I personally thought it just got way too monotonous because the only thing you really do until you get to level 60 is kill little minions and mini-bosses for quests.

If I had to choose, I'd get WOW because like I said, I don't like turn-based games... and I have friends who keep telling me to get WOW and start playing with them.

I'd say Civ4.

As a rule of thumb I'd buy a MMORPG over a TBS, but Civilization is the exception to the rule!

Waiting for my Civ4 to arrive any day now...

if you want something to take your life away, get WoW.

(also a recovering wow addict)

WoW is definately better if you have friends to play with, since once you hit 60 (about 240 to 400 hours of play time) you really can't do much by yourself.

QFT. Not only does the very nature of MMORPGs hinder graphics quality, but WoW is made so that every kiddy on mommy's P-III Celeron can play. And unfortunately a great, great number do :(

I was almost in the same boat as you two. Two weeks into the game I thought it was the best thing since oxygen, but coming into the third week at level 24(a level 20 as well) I thought, what the hell am I doing? Since I didn't have a job and in between semesters I was easily playing more than 6 hours each day. I decided to quit playing it because I felt at my level I had already experienced the whole game, and wasn't doing anything worthwhile over my break. You pretty much either grind monsters/instances, grind the battlegrounds, or play the auction house.

Now, before straying off course into new territory...I say get Civ IV.

I don't feel as though I've wasted all my time during the Winter break now. Instead of playing any games(or finding a new job :)) I ended up re-reading G.R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series(Not the 4th, still waiting to get it from a library reserve), re-read the Gunslinger by Stephen King, re-read The Chronicles of Narnia books by C.S. Lewis, large parts of some non-fiction books, and am now reading David Copperfield by Chuck Dickens. I ended up reading all these other books while waiting for my reserved copy of A Feast For Crows from the library. Whoever has it is two weeks overdue...if I find out who rented it and kept it so long I'm going to end up reading it in a jail cell, lol.

That's good that you quitted so early. After a level 60 and a level 27, I realized it was a huge waste of time, so I finally quit. Wow, my social life's so much better now.

As far as MMORPGs go, there's not a single one in existence right now that can compare to WoW in terms of fluidity, art, and consistent style. Yeah, I bet you can find some (like EQ2) that have higher polygon counts, but that's a meaningless statistic and has little bearing on how "good" a game looks. EQ2 has some nice visuals, and can easily beat WoW in limites, specific instances, but when taken as a whole, WoW's look is vastly superior to EQ2's disjointed, haphazard (not to mention, system-crushingly unoptimized) graphics. But, that's merely an opinion.

No offense, but not everyone is cursed with a weak constitution and low amounts of self-control. If your life is "taken over" by a mere computer game, then that says a lot more about you than the game or genre.

Everybody at work plays WoW... they even group together while at work. It's funny, because when something goes wrong, you hear them all go 'oh sh1t' at the same time.

Anyways, while they're all playing WoW, i'm playing Civ4. Sometimes i like to download a large video just to kill their pings and lag them out.

I'd say Civ4 since you dont have to pay monthly fees plus you said you aren't a hardcore gamer and mmo's almost need you to be a hardcore player to be succesful.

Civ4 is an oustanding game, and I enjoy it a lot. I'd take it over WoW, even though I own and play both. Different games for different moods.

Both games can suck up massive ammounts of time. Both games are excellent. Get whichever one you can enjoy with your friends because that is really going to make or break each game. I've played both and that's really my suggestion, variety is the spice of life.

I dunno I didn't get addicted to/with WoW. Its just another game to me... and I shut off my account with no regrets or twitches. Also been playing SWG on and off well until they screwed that up. Also played CoH/CoV on and off. Never really addicted. But when it comes to EVE Online... they don't make enough support groups for you to ever leave that game. Best thing about it is that its not a game you sit in front of your computer for hours on end ... life can exist with EVE. I have seen people turn to crusts of bread with WoW and CoH however, since it is a grindfest.
