What does this option actually do? I haven't played WiC in forever, never got far in it (love the game, that's just how I am with games...), and find out one of the patches (I still have 1.0) offered a 'color blind' option to turn on.
What the hell does it do? Mute the number of colors so that its less shades?
How can there be a universal color blind option? A lot of color deficit people have varying degrees of deficiency. For example, my mom is color blind, so I was guaranteed to have it being that I am a male (male children of females afflicted with color blindness are guaranteed to be afflicted as well). But I am not as bad as my mom. Both of us are red/green color deficit. I see most shades, and any 'pure' shade of a color I will see. But shades that are more mixed with other colors, or are in between the main colors, I may struggle with naming. Has never really had an effect on me in daily life, just makes naming colors and picking out a color that someone else points out more difficult.
For example, some shades of green or brown, I won't see correctly and may appear to me as a green or brown, when in reality it could be the opposite of what I think it is (I may think a shade is green, but its brown). Sometimes its more pronounced. Light shades of pink, I may see as gray, because I just won't see the light amount of red that is present. Purples I may see as blue for the same reason.
Some traffic lights, I'll see the green as nearly white, or very white. When I was growing up, I was confused as to why they called them green lights, because I thought they were white. Now in the back of my mind, I realize they are green, so I kind of trick my mind into thinking there is green present in that light, but in reality, most lights probably still appear white.
That's the other great thing about my mind being so visually oriented/photographic. I can tie what I see into what I know, and have learned from experience certain shades are not what I think they are, but this doesn't always work if I see a shade of some color that I think I have seen before, but its actually new, but due to the fewer number of shades I can actually tell apart, my mind gets a little tricked up.
Got confused once, as I was going to go through what I thought was a green light, and it was dark outside so I couldn't tell that it was the middle light on the traffic signal. When it turned red, I got very confused but stopped in time. That is the first time, and remains the only time, I've come across a yellow signal that appeared vibrant green.
That's another difference I found between me and non-colorblind folk... the world is less vibrant apparently. Colors must be slightly muted in my mind, because I came across a website that depicted the differences in colors of the same image, with varying degrees of color blindness simulated. The last two images in the series appeared the same in my eyes. One was showing one type of color deficiency, and the last one was showing what a normal person sees in comparison. So, to me, it basically pointed out the type I am. For the buddy I showed it to, the two images were very different, and he said that what I saw was a lot less vibrant.
Bums me out. I can see things that I refer to as 'vibrant', but now I know they are nearly as vibrant as what I think they are. Now I dream of the day gene therapy can fix color deficiency, because the first day I have that done (I know it'll be fixed before I die
, and I WILL get the procedure done), I'm probably going to feel like I took some super psychedelic drug and am seeing the world in a new light that I never thought possible. And it'll persist, and it'll probably be very trippy. That thought excites me.
But back to the question I posed, before I sequed like crazy... what does that option do? Does anyone have it that isn't colorblind, or even better, anyone color blind and has enabled the option? I haven't installed the patch, and I am intrigued as to what it might do, and if it has any effect on how one can play the game.
I haven't came across any issues in playing the game as far as colors go, so I'm confused as to why its an option.
On that note, it's funny, because the military once conducted a study with color blind people, and have noted that they tend to see camoflauge patterns against nature... meaning they can more easily identify someone camoflauged in some environment than someone who is not color blind.
