Kasparov has not lost a Ruy Lopez opening since 1984, when he lost to Karpov, but he got a very strong fight from Kramnik who has shown he is a worthy successor to Kasparov. Although Kasparov had a slightly better position, he was very short on time.

Game 2 will be Tuesday at 10 a.m., EST.

Thank-you, chess9.

I am so out of touch with current chess events, I didn't know the World Chess championship was even on.

What are some good chess-related sites?

A chess championship is fine, what I don't get is a Magic The Gathering Tournament!

Broadcasted on ESPN2 nonetheless!

How the hell do you broadcast MAGIC THE GATHERING?

It's probably titled "Martha Stewart's 'How to be a loser!'" or something.

You can download a free chess client from:

Chess Interface

Once logged on you can pull up the game and step through the moves of Game 1, just completed. Also, they have several grandmasters commenting on the game, as well as many nebbishes. :p You may also play as a guest for 14 days. Certainly worth the 14 day trial with the World Championships in full swing.

MSN has a chess server on their gaming network, but it is decidedly inferior. Mplayer.com has a chess server, but it is worse than MSN's. The ChessMaster web site has a server which is pretty good, but still inferior to the Chessclub site.

Game 1 from the World Championships may contain a theoretical novelty thereby making it worth reviewing if you play the Ruy Lopez.

Enjoy!

I have an 89 year old customer who's whole reason for living is to play checkers at a yahoo site. I think they have internet chess games there aswell. Do you play there?

I love the game but I'm not real good at it. I bought 2 of those radio shack electronic ches boards.Never could beat one. People are a different story. On occasion I get lucky.

TripleShot:

That's probably Microsoft's Internet Gaming Zone. They have a chess server as well. I've played there a few times, but don't care for client. The interface is too small and clunky.

All the time I see members with a lust for more fps fragging on line games yet I never see anyone touting the more basic games as you have just brought to mind, like chess and checkers and maybe some cardgames.

Would you know of any off the shelf titles that are capable of on line play like the half life or unreal tournament that would be suitable for old timers like me?

Don't get the wrong impression. I play UT and Q3A and HL. I am no immersed in opposing force.

I like slower paced games too.;)
