workstation/server recommendations

I am looking to either build or buy a workstation or server.
The most important thing is a high thread count. Intel with hyperthreading.
It will be used for running automation. I can run 2x threads per cpu core.
Running linux.
Budget under $2000(USD).
Purchase made in the US.
Hoping for 8+ cores.

For your purposes, the Xeon E5 2xxx series is the way you have to go. The CPU will consume about half of your budget, if not more, if you build yourself.

Something like a Dell Poweredge T420 is what will fit your needs. They have a dual socket option.
