I'm putting together a rig for a friend who is studying architecture. Looking at an Nvidia card for <$500 (can maybe stretch to $600). Here's the list of programs he uses, I believe some of them- CS5 and Autodesk - have CUDA support.

Adobe CS5 (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

Autodesk AutoCAD 2011

Autodesk 3DS Max 2012

Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012

Autodesk VIZ 2008

Google SketchUp 8

Rhinoceros 5

Should I go for a low end quadro card or a GeForce? I'm fairly clueless about workstation graphics so any advice is appreciated.

Thing is for that money I could get a gtx 770. For those specific applications, is a Quadro > Geforce?

Yes Qaudro > Geforce is professional applications.A gtx 770 would be a complete waste of money.
