Workplace policy situation

Ok so here is the situation.

I work for a computer lab at school and we have other employees. Before the summer schedule started, we had a meeting together as a group to plan out the hours. The manager stated a policy which was made perfectly clear in order to work during summer, all workers in the lab must be continuing students and enrolled in the fall semester.

I have received some information that there are three or more workers that don't plan on going to school in the fall or attending the university period. This means that the hours they are working should have gone to students that will be enrolled in the fall (namely the rest of the group including me).

Should I go talk to my manager about this situation? I won't be naming names but I feel as a worker, everyone should be playing fair. A good friend of mine that worked with me graduated and they showed her the door the day she graduated.

Do you think it would be a good idea for the manager to ask workers to submit a confirmed fall schedule to continue employment?

CLIFF NOTES:
1. I work in a computer lab during the summer.
2. School policy that states workers must be a continuing student and enrolled in the fall semester.
3. Found out some workers are not returning for the fall semester or not returning to the university period.
4. Should I bring it up to my manager without naming any names?
5. I could have gotten more hours of work.
6. I can get people fired.
7. I just want everyone to play fair.
 
I personally see this as a black and white issue. You would be in the right to go to your boss, and I would encourage it. However, others will call you foul names for playing by the rules because it hurts others. The choice is yours and you have to live with the consequences.
 
It probably depends.
do you feel that you don't get enough hours?
are you absolutely sure those guys are not going to attend classes in the fall?

Type a note and stick it under your managers door at night when no one is around ?
 
When it comes right down to it, they are directly influencing your life and income. Not only that, but your friend got screwed over too.

Look out for #1 and report their asses.
 
if you need teh money and want to work more... do it.

if you don't need the money and want to enjoy summer... don't do it

rules are rules... imo
 
Do you need the hours? If you do, then go for it. If you don't need them, then there's no reason to mess with someone else's income.

You should probably tell your boss anyway, I bet nothing will happen.

One of them in question has verbally mentioned to me that she was not attending school in the fall and would be pursuing her EMT certification. She's a cool person too, but again, rules and rules.

I would definintely want more hours too.
 
Base on your tone, I would guess you will go forward with your plan on telling the boss.

As for me, I wouldn't say anything. I feel it is not your job or business to be nosy in other business.

It sure as heck is when they're costing me hours and income.

While I agree with you 100%, I feel it is unfair to the other workers that are playing by the rules.

I'm just going to inform my boss to ask workers to confirm copies of student's fall schedules.

Besides, if I didnt' plan on going to school in the fall, I would definitely not continue to work at the lab. There are way better opportunities out there and that pays more.
 
See, the more and more I read post like this (nothing against you by any means, btw) the more I realize how I hate everything about "normal" life and all I want to do is pack up and move to Indonesia and teach kids english or something while scuba diving everyday.
