Workout while sick?

Is it good/bad to run a couple miles or lifting some weights when you're sick?

I'm not officially sick yet, but I have a sore throat and a small cough, which are some signs of a cold.

Oh Definitely! Usually the sicker I am, the more I do in a workout. Add a mile for every degree your body temp goes up.

Dumb question...

I've found that if it's just a simple cold with no fever, some exercise (without overdoing it) will help me feel better, and keep my sinuses clearer.

I do it all the time and I don't stay sick very long...you just really suck it up when you're working out...

This is with just a cold or a cough though..I haven't had anything more than that in lke 5 years

medical studies have shown that excercising while sick does no harm...not getting enough rest and/or nutrients is bad but going running or lifting is not a problem.

A couple of my friends are doctors...

most of the weightlifters i know WON'T workout if there's
chest involvement, but might if it's only from the neck up.

No, it wasn't a dumb question. Read the post, I'm not totally sick.

And some of the answers here don't think its such a bad idea. Think before posting next time.

Take 1000mg of echinacea and 2-300% DRV vitamin C and I bet you 10$ the cold will not develop much if any further.

Ditto that. Every time I feel a cold coming on I break out my industrial size tub of echinacea, down ~6-10 capsules twice a day with lots of water, and usually by day 2 or 3 I feel fine.

Unless I am very sick I always try to workout. Most hardcore lifters and such will not let a small cold stop them...

Keep in mind that working out AND being sick require you to drink lots of fluids, so you'll have to take in a bit more, otherwise you might be sick longer and that's no fun unless you enjoy the taste of your own flegmn and not getting any.
