Since I'm a software developer (ie. sit in the office all day with no exercise), I've been getting bigger around the waistline...

So my question is, does doing situps every night help? When I do situps, I can really feel the abs burning and working... but I am wondering if just doing situps work...

you're building you abs/oblique muscle, they will be stronger and bigger but those situps wont help reduce your waistline. In fact, it will increase your waistline if you dont include any cardio. My advice, tune down the situps and start incorporating cardio and some other all-body weight exercise - bench press, squats, olympic lifts etc - for beach-body in two months.
