ok title tells most of the story but the question is what would be a good thing (common household item) that i could set the mobo on???
the reason i need to know is that i won't be getting the case until late next week... (thank UPS Ground for that) and i need something to set it on... i don't really wanna do this... but... that is the brakes...
ie for all you guys out there w/ rc5 crack racks what do you use?
i was thinking of a piece of wood... but i don't know... (hmmm... i am completely lost in this area...)
i need to get these machines ready to go so that i can just stick them in the cases...

thanks guys

Wood is great.

Did your mobo come with a little piece of redish foamy stuff?

Put mobo on that, and the whole thing on wood.

Foam will prevent bottom of board from getting bent pins from the wood, and the wood is nice and non conductive.

Also works:

Desktop
Paper
Books
Pool Table
Hang From Wall
Cereal Box
Ratpad
Disctionary
How to learn C++ book

the packaging for the motherboard also protects against static. I would just set it on that (don't worry about the wood....the plastic in the packaging is non-conductive)

nope my mobo didn't come w/ red foamy stuff but i got plenty of it from prior builds... hehe i knew i was keeping all that stuff around for some reason... i think i'll cover the whole table w/ it... j/k :)

(i think i have kept every box i have ever used and antistatic bags etc... i am running out of space in my build area... hehe)

thanks

Josh

ah yes the "how to learn c++ book", that would definitely work, 1000 pages between the board and the carpet hehe... well dude, a rubber matt, in a non carpet environment would be nice, but man i think you should wait til ya get ur case.. without a case it would be very easy for something to damage those nice computer parts ya paid for, jus my 2cents....

If it comes in the silver anti-static bag, it is pretty darn conductive. Do NOT put your mobo on it, it is really easy to short one out like that.

Hanging from wall is fun ;)

this in in my basement (ie no carpet) on a table (top is made out of partical board... rest is plastic) on pieces of wood (so that they get the height for the pci card to stick down...) on the pink foamy stuff... i don't think it is too bad a setup ... the table is about 2 feet high so it shouldn't be bothered by accidents and itsn't too hight to work w/... and has plenty of room for everything...

thanks guys
