Poor Citrix. I know how he feels. I finally got relief after working 25 years in the same shop. 50 hours per week minimum for 25 freakin' years! The company folded after 40 years in business, and I went on unemployment. Milked it for 6 months, plus the 3 month extension. Did odd jobs after that, but basically took it pretty damn easy for over one year.
Worked with my brother doing renovation, repairs, and remodeling for about 9 months. During that time, I got a phone call from a gal at a temp service, asking if I wanted to work at a place that used CNC machines to cut fancy woodwork. I asked where she found my name and info, and she said she located it online somewhere. Perhaps from the unemployment bureau, or who knows? Anyway, I took a shot at the job, since it was close to home, and sounded interesting. That fell through, but my info was officially in the temp agency's records now. I told her I didn't want to work in a shop again, particularly 2nd, or 3rd shift, and left it at that. Months later she called and asked if I wanted to work in a shop? It was 1st shift, with overtime and paid pretty well. I interviewed and took the job. Been there almost 3 months.

You have to work for the temp agency for three months, then the company's 90 day probation period. The 11th of September will be the 3 month anniversary date, then I start the probation period. I've worked every available minute since I started, which is 55 hours per week. Never late, never absent. The temp agency knows I am willing and able to follow through. They've made a pretty fair amount of money off me, but the time is almost up. I was kicking around seeing if they could find me a little better job. Would you believe they had a message on my machine this very day? Said they have an offer to install glass doors for a decent pay rate, and travel time. Sounds kinda strange, but I'll look into it.
My question is, how do I parlay this into an even better offer? I can hang loose for a while, by just staying with the company I'm at, and let the temp agency know I'm interested in something better. Can I haggle about that 90 day period the company has to pay them for my services? There certainly are other temp agencies around. Can I use that to my advantage? I need an angle here. Anybody else use one of these agencies to get employed?
