Working Out - Protein ?

Aimster

Lifer
I've had 60grams of protein today. Is that good? How much protein should I take in to build more muscle mass. I just started working out.

From what I've heard, your body can absorb about 25 grams of protein per 4 hour period. The rest would just be unused and wasted

I just found out you should take 1-2grams of protein per pound of bodyweight throughout the day... damn

yah what Angrymarshmello said

2g/lb is a hell of a lot of protein. you have to spread that throughout the day or it will go to waste because your body can't digest that much.

I take in between 250 and 300 grams of protein a day. I bet some of that does get unused by my body, but I have been getting good gains with that.

True, but at least you know your getting everything you need. I've been working out(lifting/cardio) and my food intake has gone through the roof, which really sucks due to food alergies. I eat a bunch of chicken, cook veggies+lettuce, meal replacement shakes and meal replacement bars loaded in protein with low carbs, others wise I just get fat eating anything else. Can't even eat rice

.

For building muscle you need complex carbs though, otherwise you just don't have the frikin energy to work your body the way you need to. For most this means weight gain. I've not seen many people build lots of muscle without putting on layers of fat, so you really need to be careful about how hard you push yourself based on what your metabolic rate will let you do, because trust me, the harder you work yourself, the more food your going to crave regardless of wether or not you need it.

Holy sh*t!! What the hell do you eat to get that much protein down? Do you watch your carb/fat intake at all?

Most definitely. I watch the everything I eat. When you are eating 3300-3500 calories a day it isn't that difficult to eat that much protein. I eat 5-6 meals, each meal having between 45-55 grams of protein. Most of it does come from protein shakes (cheapest at www.fitsavers.com). But I also eat my fair share of steak, tuna, and chicken.

Haha....yeah.....I suffer from the problem at times, but....there isn't many other places to get quality protein in high amounts.
