Working on securing a Windows XP PC... help me test it...

I need links to websites loaded with spyware/adware.
Maybe even some viruses to test without anti-virus software.

Anything else you can think of that a stupid user might do (software wise) to screw up their computer.

Posting links to websites that contain all of the above could get us in trouble. 😉

I'd just go to a bunch of warez/serialz/pr0n sites. That should do it.

I will be...

Yeah, I guess links are a no-no... ok... name some software (other than Kazaa) that's known to contain spyware/adware or just some names of websites so I can go try to infect myself =)

I'm doing that now, heck, I don't even have an AV soft installed anymore. Guess what? My computer is running just fine.

Anyway, I would suggest going to porn and cracks sites.. Also see if you can get some sites that install those nasty toolbars, I can't think of any offhand.

Hmmm... yeah, I now what you're talking about... not sure where I should get them though... I'm just compiling a list of settings to change or enable or disable... then tomorrow I isolate it from my network and go to town on porn, warez, and file sharing sites =)
Try to get all those "cute" screen savers and cursors and crap

Don't forget to download the latest offerings from Real Networks.

Just as insidious as anything else you'll find out there. 😉

ok, here is one thing that you can download and install and it has lots of spyware.

screensaver

Also just surf for cracks and start clicking yes to all the javascript and Active-X pop ups.

Try installing "Hotbar" and maybe a nifty network monitoring software calle "DUStat". Both can be had for free... You could also install KaZaa.
One of the geniuses in work installed DUStat on our server... cause it was so nifty. All of a sudden all computers started having a ton of popup windows/strange symptoms. We traced it to this nifty DUstat that also silently installed micore/mediainject programs. If you like popups, there you go!

Thanks for all the links guys... so far it's doing pretty good. Had some spyware installed but nothing that couldn't be uninstalled.

Here's the IP address... 192.168.1.103 😉

If you really want us to test it, then post the real IP.

Well it doesn't need to be military grade security =) Just idiot proof.
