Working on my laptop from a mall's food court

My wife had a meeting at Crossroads Plaza in downtown Salt Lake City this morning, so I decided to pack up my laptop and tag along... been couped up in my house for 2 strait weeks. Went straight to the food court and immediately found 3 opan wlan's to connect to (hehehe). Been working on contract websites all afternoon. I never would have thought that working in a food court could be fun, but it's actually kinda interesting watching people do their thing all day... plus the background noise is nice because it's real. I'm so used to either absolute silence -- which I'd have to break up with music or streaming newscasts -- or auto traffic. Kinda crazy all the types of people you see out of a small town, too. Guess I'm what you could call sheltered in my 11k population town. I've seen everything from an army of midgits to a clan of Amish walking around here.

Definitely gonna start working down here more often (until I get a real job at least).

:cookie: for me i guess

Well, not that they're unusual -- just different than me I guess. I'm so used to spending all day, everyday with people almost exactly like me. Same industry, same tastes, same income level... Seeing these other people and watching their habits -- even if only for 15 minutes while they eat or the 30 seconds it takes for them to pass by -- really makes you appreciate your life, and I don't mean that to sound derrogatory at all.

Take this guy for example. Not a very good picture, but it's the best I could get with my camera phone.

He's got to be around 40, walking around a mall carrying a plastic baby (the kind they use in parenting classes that require a key), and wearing ski goggles. Yet, I spoke to him briefly and he *seemed* to have it all together. (he didn't have the ski goggles or the baby with him at the time)....

Didn't know Crossroads had so many open WLANs. Makes future shopping with the wife easier.

Make sure it's around lunchtime. It got pretty packed with some highschool and college hotties around 12:30ish... ;)

I used to go to work 2hrs early and sit around in the mall's food court, eat my breakfast and read my morning newspaper along with the other old folks there as well. I'm 24.

You know that people are busy doing their own things. Shopping. Taking a bus. Eating. Meeting up with friends. Or simply enjoying their coffee.

It's nice to slow down once in a while in life and just sit back and watch. Sitting back and doing absolutely nothing is not something we get to do much these days in people's constant hectic lifestyle.

WLAN in the mall? That's nice :)

Nah. I'd have been more excited about it all and actually post pics of said hotties if I was even interested. Luckily I'm happily married to my own hottie that is x^100000 (where x > 1) times hotter than anything I saw here today.... :p

I would... but it's well past lunch now... and I just don't feel right walking up to some teenage chick and snapping a picture of her... besides, with my luck, my wife would walk around the corner just as I was doing that.

LOL - Some little girl just started flipping out because she didn't want to get on the escalator - I mean seriously flipping out, like throwing shit[/b] everywhere and screaming... guess she was a little scared.

Hey I just moved to SLC 1.5 years ago. It's nice to know there are some ATOT'ers around.

On the topic of people watching. Going to a casino is some weird people watching. People there range from insanely rich to crazy poor. And they're mostly all throwing their money away, "humping the American dream".
