Working in IT in Vancouver

About a month ago I was let go from a certain company in Canada with the initials NN anyway now it looks like I may have found a new job in Vancouver. Actually it's in Burnaby, BC right near Simon Fraser University

So anyone here live in Vancouver?

What's the weather like?

What's the cycling like?

Where's a good place to live?

What's the cost of living like?

What's the IT situation like out there? What kind of salary can a Business Analyst with seven years experience expect?

Thanks for any input.

I live on Vancouver Island, but I go to Vancouver every once and awhile.

Weather = Seattle but a little colder...lol
Cycling = Mounting Biking, the North Shore = Awesome.
Good Place to Live = How much money you got? lol
Cost of Living = Second only to Victoria on the west coast... (at least that is what some report said...)
Money = Good with big company, bad with little company. (Hasty Generalization)

I just picked up a tech job in downtown Vancouver. I love it so far! I am a comp-sci student at SFU as well.

So anyone here live in Vancouver?

Yup! I acutally live in the Port Coquitlam though.

What's the weather like?

I like the fact that we have seasons. I gets chilly in the winter, but it is just right in
the summer.

What's the cycling like?

Mountains for the hardcore bikers and the downtown sea-wall for the leisurely types like me 🙂

Where's a good place to live?

I would like to live in Yaletown or the West End but it's either too small or too expensive. Stay away from Surrey 😉.

What's the cost of living like?

From what I hear it is high, but I was talking to a person from San Diego saying that it is super cheap up here... I dunno, I guess it's all relative.

What's the IT situation like out there?

AFAIK the IT situation is doing really well here. When I complete my degree I hope to stay in Vancouver.

What kind of salary can a Business Analyst with seven years experience expect?

Not sure. I am getting paid peanuts right now because I was desperate to leave my meat packaging job 🙂. I don't care though because I am learning so much and work is actually fun!

Send me a PM if you want more specifics... Have you ever been to Vancouver?

Vancouver is great in many ways I think you will enjoy it...the spring, summer, and fall are great. There are tons of babes up here to. Plenty of outdoor activities. The people are friendly for the most part to. Be prepared to deal w/ high taxes though.

It does rain a lot in the winter months so it gets a little dreary at times....think of it like Seattle as far as weather go's.

The cost of living is much lower than Montreal from what I hear.( I Just realized you are from there, I thought I was talking to an American)

The cycling is great...great rides along Stanley Park, and the sea wall. Did I mention Babes already?

Welcome to Vancouver 🙂

Burnaby, is not all that great..used to live there for years..and I lived on the SFU campus as well. BBY is bland basically. I now live in Ladner which is just 20 min from downtown Vancouver..it's a cool little municipality, kinda like a farming/fishing community.

I forgot to mention the babes 🙂, not that they notice or anything 🙁

They are still nice to look at though 😛
