Working full time, living on my own with absolutely no help

Am I going to kill myself?
I work 40 hours a week, live on my own, pay for everything myself, and will be going to school full time in the spring. No help from parents, nothing to fall back on.
Is this suicide? I could always take 8 years to get a 4 year degree...But I was hoping to have that degree in 4.

It won't be easy. But it will be worth it if you can manage it. Good luck to you.

It's not half as cool if you complain the whole time. I'm working full time, supporting myself completley and graduating EARLY. See me complaining? pwned.

If you attend year-round, you should be out in four years. You might not want to try to max out on your classes each quarter/semester; instead try for the minimum to maintain full time status. i.e when I was in college, in the quarter system, 16 credit hours was more-or-less standard, eighteen was maximum you could attempt w/o paying more tuition, and 12 was the minimum to be full time.

You live out on your own no help from anyone? Not even a wife/gf?
That's pretty cool. Perhaps there is hope.

I do/did that - then I crashed and burned into a nice fiery mess. I'm only taking like 3 classes a semester right now - oh well.

I work 40 hours a week right now and I'm taking 17 credits.

It is pretty tiring, but it won't kill you. You can stilll have a social life if you want, but don't expect to be going out 3 nights a week like all your friends.

I'm currently trying to get another job working only 24 hours a week, but the pay difference is so big it'll make up for the 16 lost hours.

I'm doing the same thing.

Except that I'm actually working 50 hours per week, and I have a wife to take care of.

It's manageable, and once you get into a routine it wont seem so bad. I work fulltime and attend lawschool at night. The first couple weeks were rough, but once I figured out my schedule things fell into place. It actually helps me to manage my time better and devote more time to schoolwork, since I don't have as many lazy hours anymore to slack off.

Good luck!

Been there, done that. Actually, I'm doing it right now. Been doing it for the past four years actually and I'm out in December.

Can you have a social life? Yes... depends on what GPA you are aiming for. Personally, I took my education very seriously and that had priority over my social life, so I didn't have much of a social life for the past four years. I looked at it this way, if I worked really hard for these four years then it'll hopefully pay off after I graduate. It all depends on your priorities.

Its not easy though. Expect to sacrifice a lot of the things you normally associate with college life.

Last semester I was working over 40 hours, going to school full time with a 3 hour commute to school each way. Night classes, so I wouldnt get out until almost 10 then drive 3 hours. I also got married over spring break. It was a hell of a semester but it was worth it.

Now I live 2-3 minutes from the Univ and still work full time and am going to school full time. It makes a ton of difference not having to make that drive, more time with the wife.

I work either 9-5 or 12-8 depending on classes. I'm going to need a night job soon though.

My first year shouldnt be so bad I am guessing. It's just gonna be basics for a while. It's been 7 years since I have been in school and I have forgotten everything but my name.

I did it in 5 years. Working nearly full time (30-35 / week) and studying nearly fulltime (12-14 credits / semester). But i still had a social life. If youre going to do fulltime/fulltime say goodbye to ANY form of social life.
