Just gotta offer from a subsidiary of a pretty large financial firm. Is working for a subsidiary similar to working for a small company with large corporate benefits? Also, if someone were to ask me where I worked, and I just gave them the name of the more well known firm that wholly owns the subsidiary, would I be lying? e.g. If I worked for Youtube and said I work for Google..

You list your employer as the company that gives you the offer letter.

Be warned, subsidiaries are the bastard children of corporate and you WILL do as you are told.

When you interviewed, didn't you ask questions to figure out if the subsidiary ran like the parent company? Only you can tell, it varies by company.

It may be a small company environment (i.e. small office), but if you're working for a publicly held company it's not like working for a small, privately owned company.

I don't say I work for my company's parent company, but I would mention that my company is owned by company X if I thought anyone might know who company X is (most people wouldn't recognize the name... it's a fortune 500 company, but it's a large manufacturing company that makes a lot of brands people might recognize, but the company itself doesn't have much name recognition... I think the company I work for has more name recognition than our parent company).

Please explain how it is different from the parent company when doing/not doing what you are told?

Subsidiaries are the bastard child.

There is an ingrained culture to "combat" corporate and go out and "do your own thing". I use the "bastard child" because that is lot's of times what corporate calls them. You tell them to do something/anything and they constantly resist. You try and try and try until you have had enough and then you lop the head and shoulders off, along with the hands. Replaced by corporate people who listen and take direction accordingly.

It all depends on the culture of course. But eventually the subs will be brought inline. It may take many years, but they will be.

Not always true. Some subs are left to do their own thing as the parent company knows that adding too much bureaucracy can stifle innovation and growth for a small company.

That's what you let them think.
