Working for $7/hr at a Crappy Computer Shop

I know many of you will say, "well it's a job" blah blah blah I've heard it before. But ok, I'm 16, I know a lot about computers, built my own when I was 13. I work at this computer shop down the street. I get paid $7/hr to get abused basically. I'm not a racist but when a boss who's half Spanish and half Arabic starts yelling at you to your face and dropping F-bombs, it's not all that much worth the $7/hr. I'm the ONLY one that works there with him too. Half the time the place smells like ASS because it's dirty and disgusting. One time he sneezed, never covered his face, and then commented on the snots that came out. Um...EWW! The place is a wreck after he's been there for a day too. He smokes like a fiend and has a horrible mouth. He talks in French to his "friends and family" on the phone all the time, then swears when he gets something messed up or looses something. If he looses something he'll automatically go to the thought of "oh someone stole it." He went to France last week and had me and some old guy watch over the store. He thinks that I close the store for 5 minutes to get a soda for lunch OH MY GOD WE'RE LOOSING MONEY!

I feel better lol. I can't wait to get my license Thursday, find a job at the airport (I want to be a pilot), and quit from this "sh!thole" as it is now called.

P.S. It's never fun when it's hot and humid in the summer, he goes and takes a massive crap in the bathroom, then leaves the bathroom door open and turns the industrial fan on in the back so all the sh!t smell blows right into the front of the store. Some business....

hahaha, good stuff man.

we all start somewhere.

one day you'll look back on this experience... and still be pissed off about it.

😉

PPS. He hires me under a 1099 so that it's cheaper for him at tax time - this is when i have set hours and I'm NOT a "contractor" for him. OH! During the summer I worked 50hrs+ for 2 weeks and NEVER got ANY overtime!

sounds fun!
Don't sweat it... its only temporary. I used to work moving furniture at 16. It'll get better as long as you stay in school.

And do you have any certs? 3 years of home grown computer expierence doesn't mean jack crap. I'm A+ Net+ and security+ certified and I make $10 an hour.

We've all had crappy jobs. I get paid $10 an hour to do work I should get paid $15 for... You're 16 and any job is better then nothing. Quit bitching.

Just read this... There are government agencies you can call about this. Call the dept. of labor.

i can tell you right now, knowing a lot about computers and building them isn't going to get you anywhere. everyone and their brother does that crap nowadays.

if you don't like it, quit. find another job. at 16 there's plenty of places that will take on part time help. its not like you're out in the "real world" yet. now thats a tough time trying to find another job.

Gotta love the "I'm not a racist..." comments followed by something racist.

I don't think he said anything racist.

To the op...suck it up. It sucks, but like someone else said, jobs as a teen suck.

that's life. plenty of people in the IT field but few jobs for them all. so companies and firms want experience as if we can grow it from trees.

That would be pretty good if he's 16 like the OP. I started out at $5.15/hr as a dishwasher at a steakhouse when I was 15. Made ~$7/hr when I was in college working at a fast food joint. It wasn't until I got an internship that I started bringing in some dough albeit only at $11.50/hr.

QFT. I'm amazed at the number of people who wear their "PC Tech" badge on their sleeve and act like they're the only ones that are in the business. It's like a car mechainc, everyone knows how to do it, some of us just don't have the time

I'm sorry man. That's terrible. I worked in a small shop while I was in college but it was clean, and they mostly did contracting work for companies. No personal pc's just because it's too much hassle. Sounds like heaven next to that hell hole. Stick it out a little longer, but by all means possible you should be looking for other employment.

Yeah, we all had crappy jobs growing up. The worst one that I've ever had required me to clean out the women's bathrooms every night... Damn, that's disgusting.

there's no reason you can't do that if you can get a 1st class medical. if you need to you can get loans to finance your training, then take a low paying first officer job for some tiny airline for a couple years, then move on to something bigger.

I'd say that's better than cleaning out a men's bathroom since that's usually more filthy.
