After a long time, I have a laptop once again.
Now, I have to figure out how to get my laptop and home computer to play together. Before, whenever I needed remote access I would just use Remote Desktop. Mostly, I just edit documents and do some light programming. I also listen to music and play a few videos once in a while. I was wondering how other alternatives would work.
1. Set-up a server at home. (I have a copy of server 2003 lying around.)
Pros
-free (since I already have the necessary hardware and software)
-only one set of files
Cons
-have to manage server and worry about security
-no access to files offline
-slow access to files depending on internet network
2. Use an online server and store stuff there.
Pros
-no messing with server software
-
Cons
-monthly costs
-no access offline
-no files stored locally
-slow access to files depending on internet network
3. Sync my laptop and home computers.
Pros
-offline access
-fast access to files
Cons
-duplicate files
-have to sync files
4. Stick with remote desktop.
Pros
-easy setup
Cons
-lag
-no offline access
Anything I am missing? What do you guys prefer and do you have any other alternatives?
