working at compusa/bestbuy?

I'm in desperate need of a job and thinking about applying to work for bb or compusa.
Anybody here has any idea how much they pay you to work there?

Thanks a lot...

No it just means that the employee discount at CrapUSSR is next to worthless...

CC, BBY, CUSA... all are non-commission? Seems like they just stock the store with clueless employees and teenagers.

I'm not really positive about that, but I do know that CompUSA is ultimate suck. Maybe that would would be an advantage becuase you wouldn't have to work so hard (the employees there seem to be pretty lazy).

I have heard that Best Buy can have really bad managers and that they fire people for ridiculous reasons and/or to cover their own corruption.

Keep in mind that on the application they will ask you what kind of wage you are looking for as an entry-level position. I'm sure people here know what that is but they may not like to post on a public forum. PM messages.

Yeah, I was thinking (still am) of doing it but don't want to get lumped into the same category.
Ugh, last week I asked a sales person at CircuitCity who was hovering around the tvs if they had any DLPs come in yet, and he said "Uh, you might want to check with that guy over there." He points his index finger somewhere and scatters off. So much for customer service :disgust:.

You should clarify that.. you mean they're barely smart enough to be called retarded. Same thing with most superstore employees. They're pulling in a wage whether they help you or not. And most would rather not... :disgust:

I know where I live when I worked at Comp USA it was 7.00 an hour starting. They have really good benefits (where I work).

bestbuy!!!?? DONT DO IT.

"non pressure environment" - BS. If you dont meet the quotas that they give you, you get the sh*t jobs to and you get b*tched at.

"Non commission -so no pressure" - you still have to meet those quotas.. but you have to make yourself look like a jack ass by telling all of your customers that you're non commission.

late nights working trucks -I spent some nights from 2pm -11 (shift) and then didnt leave until 3-4am

insane amounts of company policy -most of it managers never follow (which creates more work your the low level employees), and then they retrain the employees time and time again.

variable schedule, not fixed.

crappy shift requrements ( to be full time you must have X hours available on the weekend and XX hours available during the week) similar restrictions imposed for both full and part time.)

within a year you stand a good chance of new hires making more money than you.. they dont like to give raises often, or in large amount.

security sucks and theft is a huge problem.

hella b*tchy customers ALL THE TIME

constant phone calls of people complaining.

if you're working in media you get to listen to the same three demo cds on the stereo for an entire month (have fun)

if you work in PCHO you get more customers than your could possibly handle, they have to wait, and then they yell ar you.

if you work as a casheir or rep 2, you have to stand there all day and listen to people complain.

no matter where you work in the store you have a scripted sales presentation format that you are supposed to follow. they give the freedom to present things however you want as long as it follows a certain format (hello, my name is, what are you looking for today? who are you buying for? Based on what you've told me, I'd recommend..., I think this is good for you. can we put this on your best buy card?) CARE process that will be drilled into your brain.

you will learn that people are all idiots. its cute for a while but then...

Your discount isnt applicable until a full 30 days after you're hired.

working there taught me some good sales procedues, but looking back i cant believe i spent three years there.
along the way i got 6 people hired into bestbuy. 5 of them left before a year.

Jobs at bestbuy are VERY HIGH turn over

I'll post more as i htink of them.

have to agree with crumpet. policies suck and if u will be forced to rip people off as best you can. pay isnt bad considering you dont do that much....but its like selling ure soul for 7-12(computer tech) bucks an hour.
