Workarounds For Inaccessible Multiplier Ranges

Maybe because the symptoms havent been seen before.

I think you have seen my posts before, please take another minute to think about what my CPUID and Sandra displayed when I unlocked my XP2600+ and installed it in my KX7-333 (KT333). When I set BIOS setting to 8x or 8.5 (actually reported as 16x and 16.5 with the above software) my FSB was exactly half of whatever I set it to. (IE. 133fsb gave me 66.7 or so) and the clock speed was calculated as such also.

All the lower and higher multipliers (up to 12.5) are normal (IE. 7.5 is 7.5 and 9 is 9) with no 'half' fsb problem.

My current thought is that the BIOS is confused as to which multiplier to use for the 8x setting.

The only reason I tried this is to see if I could get close to the clock speeds from the 266 version of the XP2600 are reaching. Not that I want to operate my system on a lower FSB. From what I've seen so far is that my system is faster at its current configuration, rather than dropping the FSB to 133 or so and upping the multiplier.

Just curious. Any ideas?

We state in the article that 100% success rate is not attained, there are many systems that seem to thwart all known workarounds, though we propose 2 that are not yet tested.

But seems like you somehow reset the 5th bit LO, (your 2600 is 15X??), then was able to access the 5X-12.5X range OK except for that really wierd 66.7 FSB at 8X and 8.5X. So your low range workaround was OK, except for 8X, 8.5X, which we'd assign to something in the system as you say, and not in the Multiplier signal circuits.

Since 16X66.7 = 8X133, could this possibly be just a case of "reporting" error?? Did you actually double check CPU freq at 8X??

here it is again ...

Basicly, all my default multipliers provided by BIOS are working. (5 thru 12.5) (except for 8 and 8.5 which are 16 and 16.5 with half FSB)
The BootUp screen, CPUID, and Sandra all reported the same clock speeds (IE: 66.7 x 16 = 1067)

I'm currently 11.5 x 189.4 = 2177 (clik AMDbox in my sig)

Abit said "double check you dont have the 333 version of the CPU"... (12.5 x 166)

So .. I believe if I bought the 266 version the 16 and 16.5 mults would be working properly.

(even thou I still wouldnt have 13 thru 15 multipliers)

Ya .. its weird ...

dont put to much effort into this issue...

Eventually a DDDR MB will hit the market that is of good quality ... and I will move on ... 🙂
(and going even faster)
