Work thinks ATF is "chat".

Damn. Work IT ppl have blocked access to the Forums. Calls them "chat". Ok. From now on, I no longer help sr. folks with their comp problems. I got most of my info from here!

Next: they won't let us use various uilities, depending on the source. Computing just got harder.

Will they ever learn?

talk to someone, maybe they can keep Off Topic blocked, but open up techsupport, OS, Apps, and networking for you

Thanks - I tried that. Since I'm not "IT", it's a no.

Funny. One of the best IT guys they have asks *me* how to set up a Win2k wireless lan (I usually lurk on the networking forum). But since I'm not annointed, I can't get to the forums from work. I'm just gonna leave early and log on from home!

wow .. that's a crazy policy but again cant say much cuz i didnt know your fellow users habit on the net, they know so i'm guessing they've reacted accordingly.

The general rule is if it doesn't have to do with your job you shouldn't be doing it at work. We had some guy call us up the other day complaining about how his computer was too slow to even run his credit unions website, I told him that that really wasn't our problem as it isn't work related. I don't know what your job description is, but if it includes tech support you could possibly make the argument that you need the tech support forum to bounce ideas around, of course that will probably make you look inexperienced, I don't think there is any reason why you would need off topic or any of the other forums however.

Umm what kind of company do you work for that the employees are that inept? Furthermore, I assume since he didn't know how to set one up, that it probably isn't secured. I don't understand how they would be worried about blocking internet sites, but not worried about leaking company data over a wireless connection.

If that's the case, what's your company's policy on laptops. Bring a laptop in and access the internet through the Wifi connection. 🙂
