I work for a paper, and for the adds we have these teams, with sales people, artists and a leader. The sales people have paper's their supposed to give out stating acceptable media, some advertiser send us complete adds others send stuff to the artists.
Well no one on these teams, not even the artists knows how to convert files thru any of the formats we use .pdf .eps .ps and .qxd so we often get calls to pull up this file in some ones shared drive on the server, well novel makes nice directory trees, and thes people make up there own, so i get requests some times to find a file in /team/person/date/filename/ when the tree starts at z:/team/program/teamleader/team/person/date/file
then we have to convert the files to 3 different formats and email them to people that dont know how to find the cursor. . . or their email names. . then these people who are supposed to recieve the stuff, call the people up stairs, and they go "Whats .zip? my customer said you sent him a .zip and he doesnt have time to unzip it, send him the .pdf". well does the customer have time to dl the 9mb pdf?? ill gladly send it from our alternate aol account to their 2400 baud modem pool.
then their are those that email us stuff with mac characters in the file name, or .qxd files which are actually like .html files, they dont have the pictures built in, so we hafta get them to send the associated .tif's and also there are artists that are in our satelite office, becuase if they where in this office we'd have made new chairs out of them. they scan fullcolor full page newspaper adds at high resolutions to compile their .pdf files. its fun having to use a p2 300 to convert a 120 mb file around to other formats. . . whole issues of our paper r usually smaller than that, welll end rant,
