<begins rant>
There is one guy here at work that is over 2 cubicles away from my desk. Yet with my music on (I have headphones and it helps me think), I can still CLEARLY hear him talking about scripts, SQL, etc. 2 cubicles! Over 25 foot at least. WTF. Quiet down or shut up. There is no reason I should hear you from that distance. I hope our company outsources his job, pronto!
<ends rant>

I did consider trying to type as much of his conversation as possible and sending it to him. What other ways could I let him know he is being a bit on the loud side?

Try the long forgotten art of telling him face to face..........or tell the boss he "touched" you.

I'd call someone else and say things like "You shoudl hear what this guy by me said. I can hear every word..." and make sure he hears you. Or talk about it with someone else when he's around. Might get him to shut up.

Of course this works better if you are overhearing personal conversations and hear something good...

ummm, how about asking him to keep it down?

Usually works for normal people.

if you have the balls ..walk over and hang his telephone up ...

but the likelyhood is that you need your job to pay the bills and willput up with it rather than cause waves...so rant on my brother!

What's that? I can't hear you over the HVAC!

Do they actually make white-noise generators?

You should do it back to him two times over. Just pretend your answering the phone and just start yelling like the guy from Trigger Happy TV: "HELLO!!! WHATS THAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU, THE GUY NEXT TO ME KEEPS YELLING!! YEEEAH, I KNOW HE'S AN @SS, BUT WHAT CAN I DO? ALRIGHT, TALK TO YOU LATER!!"

and hang up.
He'll get the hint.

Yes. They can help people, especially babies, sleep through minor noises if they tend to wake up easily. That's the main use as far as I know...

Dial into your paging system and leave the phone facing his cube so his conversations are broadcasted over the buildings.
