Sigh...

Yesterday:

I was in the middle of my lunch & another nurse brought to my attention that one of her clinic patients had shown up in our waiting area to be seen in the walk in clinic.

I go out to him in the waiting area because she was pretty anxious, look @ the guy, who's there with his wife, and find out he's suddenly unable to walk, his speech is slurred, & half of his face is paralyzed for the last 2 hours.

Knowing that he is @ risk for a stroke, I wheel him to the ER, talk to the physician in charge of the ER & another physician who both readily agree he is in the window to treat an embolic stroke, needs to be in the ER, and to have an urgent cat scan.

I find out who the charge nurse is wheel up to her with the patient & his family in tow, and try to tell her what's going on.

She (fat black female biatch) begins literally screaming @ me that she hasn't had her break & am I an idiot, can't I see she's busy, etc.

I look @ her, seriously embaressed that he patient & his family have to see this crap, and quietly ask if she would designate someone else to take the report that I could talk to them. She does & I do.

As I'm walking out the door, she rants loudly @ how goddamn rude I am...

Today:

I take yet another poor soul who's managed to ahve a seizure in our waiting area to the ER.

A friend pulls me aside & informs me that I was written up by several staff in the ER for being rude.

WTF???

So, I look up the patient from yesterday's computerized notes, find out he's been admitted & has recovered fairly well, thanks in some small part to my not letting him stroke out in my wiating area.

I go up to talk with him, & he agrees to back up my problems with the biatch yesterday & proceeds to write a full page about what happened & how he's so grateful I helped him & took a ration of sh1t along the way to make sure he didn't sit somewhere & die, says not only that I was polite to the biatch, but that I took it like a man & did not react to her. He also volunteers to have his wife & son write up supporting documentation.

I make copies of everything, give a set to my next 2 levels of management...

Waiting for the fireworks:evil:

Rude ass people that try to intimidate people into acquiescing to their laziness, suck!

I work around a bunch fat and thin.

But, nobody usually dies because of it. You need to put the biggest smackdown on this biatch. It might save my life.

He he, every once in a while the planets line up correctly & I get to kick some miserable POS's ass & save a patient.

I wouldn't have done anything if I wasn't backed into a corner & needed to protect myself against the write ups from the lazy ass biatch who was so stupid she doesn't realize the patients see me as the guy who swoops in & saves them & is willing to get cussed out rather than drop the ball:|

I can see it now, some mid level manager will go to my manager looking to ruin my freaking life & she'll hand them the letter the patient wrote for me. Not only will the mid level technocrat have to back off, they'll take it out on the biatch who lied to them in the first place & made them look like a fool.

Unfortunately, they'll probably just move or promote the biatch to get her away from the patients, cuz we know that she's been traumatized by being a minority & is exempt from all workplace rules of conduct.

You would be even more mad if you have experienced this happening in real life cause it happens...

Sucks people are more worried about their damn stomachs then the patients.
THanks for Fightn the good fight!

Off topic, but my neighbor had a problem about a year or so ago where half his face became paralyzed ... his wife, a retired nurse, freaked out thinking he was having a stroke, but it turned out to be some sort of viral infection of a nerve in his face!?! Took several months to recover ... in fact, that half of his face still isn't quite normal.

Anyway ... good save. Way to stand your ground and kep your cool.

I know, that is what makes me mad.

I hate to rant against medical profession because too many are selfless individuals, but when you run across negligence there it stands out as life threatening.

It wasn't life threatening, but I remember waiting in ER for 2 hrs for some meds to send me to lala land out of a terrible kidney stone attack after the doctor prescribed the drugs. I found out the hold up was that nurse decided to take long break.

I'll probably never hear another word about it.

Sad thing is, if I hadn't been warned, my boss would call me in & I'd be screwed, left picking up the pieces a month or 2 from now.
