Here's the situation:

I worked last weekend in the meat department at my walmart store. I don't normally work in the meat department and I was asked by the store manager to help out over there because of the volume of turkeys they were going to sell. I agreed and he and the co-manager(2nd in charge) approved my schedule. I was going to work the same hours as I normally work in the hardware department.

The conflict comes on last Sunday. I was told to work 8am-5pm. I showed up on time and was working my butt off and around 10am the other two guys in the meat department realized that there was no one scheduled to work that night. I was asked to go home and come back in at 5pm and work till 9pm. I didn't want to because it had only been two hours and I was already awake. I agreed because I was afterall just helping out over there but I was pretty much forced because the other guys both normally worked in the meat department and more say than I did.

I now find out that this is illegal for walmart policy to ask me to go home after arriving at work and then coming back. I did not get my full 8 hours that I was scheduled that day and I had to come back to work again. Should I be entitled to a full 8 hours pay or should I be entitled to a 8am-9pm pay?

It's freakin retail and I have 2 years in there with no writeups or anything. They broke company policy and I can go above the store manager if I need to with their Open Door Policy and he will not find out about it.

Logic would suggest that you be paid for the 8 hours you were scheduled even though it sounds like you only worked 6. But logic doesn't count when you're up against evil Walmart and their devious corporate ways.

bet you're wishing you worked for a union buisness now. but seriously, i'd say go ahead and write them up if you think they broke policy. it was a crappy thing to do to you regardless.

how difficult is it to make up the hours? In michigan, by law, they're only allowed to dock us for half an hour of lunch....so if it's assumed that you're going to be taking 1 hour lunches 5 times a week and you only take the required half hours instead, you've just added 2 and a half hours to your check.

If you fight this one you are not going to win. Start looking for a job with another company.

How many hours did you *work*, as in do your scheduled task?

That's how many hours you deserve. My should they pay you for more hours?

Thats exactly what I'm thinking. I was not even in my normal department and I was just helping out in the meat department. I worked a little over 6 hours.

I have a friend who used to work for Wal-Mart. The way they treat employees is disgusting.
