work not challenging+frustrating = time for new job?

OS

Lifer
I am an engineer at an aerospace company. Worked here for a year and the benefits and pay is good. But the work is completely unchallenging and not much more than fishing through documents to update code, and the culture consists of never ending bungling of assignments, deadlines, etc. Dilbert/office space like elements in my work culture.

I feel like I could be doing something more challenging and worthwhile, is it time to start polishing up the resume?

mmm i like the sound of good pay, benfits, and unchallenging 😉

It sounds good from the outside, but it's really unsatisfying in practice to be an ineffective person. I am generally paid and treated well, so this isn't a terrible situation by any measure, but I'd like to be able to work hard and have a feeling of self direction.

Also, I am single and have >6 months worth of after tax savings.

If I did it couldn't be aerospace. Industry is extremely unfavorable to start ups, if not impossible. The best I could hope for is to start a body shop of document fishers and code monkeys. 😛

Otherwise it's something I'm considering, but I don't have much expertise on things outside my education/work. (EE/computer option, mostly aerospace work)

My father worked in the aerospace industry for a very long time and he's always told me to avoid the aerospace industry for the reasons you listed.
