Work from home -- what is it??

As I peruse monster.com I keep coming across work from home stuff like : http://www.careersfromhome.com/ (which only wants $45 to register with them.. bah) and I was curious, how exactly do these things work out?

Do they somehow funnel calls across the internet to people sitting on their homes dialed-up to the internet, even on Dial-up lines?

To clarify, I think at least some of these positions are Call Center type positions.

And oh, I haven't even the slightest interest in having a position like this, since I would freak my neighbors out if I were taking calls from home, since we can hear our neighbors pretty easily..
 
CFH is a scam place...they charge you $ for listings of companies that offer (maybe) telecommuting positions. They don't provide actual telecommuting job postings. You can get the info for free yourself.
 
Some of the scams have you pay them to register, then they give you the stuff you need to convence people to register with you for $45. And the cycle continues.

They could just be some sort of telemarketing scheme, but any company that requires you to pay them to work, is generally a scam.
