I am so tired of work related acronyms.
Usually used by the corporate true believers.
It saves time I guess, but i cant really verify that.
I am going to request to my boss to never use acronyms when discussing something with me again.
this isnt sms.

AIB. People use it to mean all sort of things expect it's true meaning, Add-In Board.

LBJ took the IRT down to 4th Street USA
When he got there, what did he see?
The youth of America on LSD.

This needs to be made into a movie. Make it a spin off of Top Gun.

"Am I suppose to be able to see all these top secret documents? Because all of a sudden, I can. This changes the mission parameters." *Fighter jet windshield closes*

I worked for one guy who was great. During all meetings or calls or any gathering of people this included email lists, all acronyms needed to be defined first then the acronym could be used. You’d get a good talking to if you screwed it up and he had zero fear calling someone out who sends an email with an undefined acronym on it as in he’d “reply all” and say something like “Wayne please explain what SC and KPI are”
Thing that was cool is it only needed to be defined on its first use for that conversation then acronym use was fine.

I had coworkers who made deliberate attempts to go a whole week without acronyms anywhere...emails, conversations, meetings. They didnt make it to lunch. Too unwieldy.

it is true

the people who buy into acronyms the most are most likely to get promoted
God, my work manuals have pages devoted to "Lists of Abbreviations!" That being said, work life would be harder without those acronyms. OP and you are probably referring to corporate-speak acronyms, not technical or industry-standard acronyms.

Pedantic hate for misspelled acronyms...

Saw an email in my inbox today from when I was off and the entire subject was acronyms. I have no idea what the email was talking about, but I think something was down.

My life is fairly acronym free. Lots of abbreviations, but they're all pretty standard, and used to save space and typing time. Nothing jargony or trendy.

The company I work for is obsessed with them (literally its even named one), and seems to have decided that about once a year they should change them up for no apparent reason.
