"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden,
meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
President John F. Kennedy, Inaugural address January 20, 1961
These words still ring true to me, even though I wasn't born when they were spoken. This war isn't about oil, or politics, it is about the threat to our liberty, our right to be safe in our own cities. It is about the world's right to not be cornered by a bully. Someone has to police the playground, and we have stepped up to the challenge. America is still the country that the downtrodden look to, pray that someday they can come here to start a new and better life. We are a land founded by immigrants, sustained by the hard work of those who had nothing, and came here knowing that the opportunity was waiting for them and their children. If our system of Democracy is so messed up, why do people still fight to come to our shores? Why do they support us even when we protest ourselves? Freedom is not just a word to those people, it is a great shining light, sometimes the only light they have in their dark world. To allow that light to go out would be the greatest tragedy of all.
Talk to your naturalized: Mexican, Cuban, Hatian, Vietnamese, Laotian, El Salvadoran, Sri Lanken, South African, Iranian, Iraqi, Thai, Chinese, Korean or what ever nationality you can come up with. Ask them why they are here. Ask them if they love America. Now ask yourself...
