I am new to the computer building world and am attempting to build the system in my sig. I should be getting the last part tomorrow and would like to ask everyone's advice. Has anyone had problem/success with a similar situations? Any "tricks" that I should know of before I put everything together? I will be running win2k and have read a couple people are quite happy with it on the abit boards. Thnaks in advace for any help.

I just woke up, so I'll have more advice for you later...but here are a few tips...

  • Take it slow, don't rush, and be careful!
  • Be extremely careful when mounting the heatsink on that Tbird so you don't crack the core. Hook the heatsink clip on the socket clip dealie, then push the heatsink flush against the core and lil pads (make sure it is flat and not on an angle!), then clip the other side of the heatsink clip down.
  • Blue end of the ATA/66 cable goes into the motherboard.
  • Make sure you connect the floppy cable correctly. When you first boot up- check to see if the green light on the floppy drive is always on- if it is, turn off the machine, take off the cable from the floppy drive end and flip it then put it back on. When you boot up the green light should be on then off or something...but it should turn off. Then put in your boot disk and go for it- if you have your boot disk in and you mounted the floppy cable wrong, you will kill that disk.
  • Double and then triple check EVERY cable, EVERY wire, EVERY fan...everything!

Hmmm...more advice to come later probably...if I remember. :p

Should I anticipate any compatability issues? Anything that I should be aware of?
