My absolute and utter hatred for games for windows live D:

It is the most vile, useless piece of shit software I've ever had the displeasure to use in my entire life.

I just reinstalled Batman Arkham City after doing a clean install of Windows 8 a long with my upgrade to the LGA 2011 platform. At first, the game loaded an old version of the games for windows live client which was incompatible with Windows 8, so I couldn't save my game progress.

No biggie I thought. I updated to the latest client, and sure enough, games for windows loaded a long with the game.

Then I try to log in, and it tells me my product key has already been registered to another live profile.....which is me. :mad:D:

So basically, I can't play the game I paid money for. Heck, I can't even patch the game since the fucking game requires me to log in to the games for windows live client for it to auto patch..

*Sigh* It's crap like this that makes people turn to piracy I swear..

Someone just post the CEO's phone number and just keep calling him till it gets fixed. Time to take a stand.

I hate it too. Some of my GFWL games worked until a newer one was installed, then after awhile the new one would have a problem. :/

The client should at least Auto-Update and maintain compatibility with all past games. I really don't understand how such a half-assed system was thought to be a good idea to be foisted on the public.

This is one of the reasons I love Steam, it just works.

LOL, I just made Microsft spend 50 bucks on me! :D

I was on the phone for about a good 30 minutes with a games for windows live representative, and in the end, he ended up purchasing a copy of Batman Arkham City for me from the games for windows marketplace to replace the copy I had.

I can't believe he had to go to such lengths, but I appreciated it. He used remote connection so he could verify that I really did own the game, and once he did that, he just bought me another product code and now everything is as it should be..

Whenever I'm forced to switch to Win 8 I might just dual boot with 7 just to skip having to spend evenings on the phone with Microsoft and friends.

Indeed, it is tough to come up with words that accurately depict the needless frustration GFWL has put people though. This pictures a good start:

M$ should honestly just leave the user experience up to other companies because they are fookin garbage at it. Stick to the low level stuff like DX etc, they do a good job with that. Their two notable additions to PC gaming have been vistas support for the games folder (which is crap because it has less functionality than a real fecking folder) and GFWL. Kinda glad they've given up on it.

They keep saying cloud storage is the future, well, as of right now it's just a big PITA for games. Works well with movies and audio, but man, stay away from games. This is exactly why GFWL sucks, is because it feels like I'm playing a Facebook game. Every time I log in the rules change, and my data gets lost and corrupted so the hell with it.

I guess I am the only person who has never had a problem with GFWL.

Holy shit. There's two of us? I thought I was the only one. o_O

I have like a couple dozen games with GFWL. Never had issues with any of them.

Issues with GFWL, which I've had many, really serves to underline Steam's excellent system. I'm guessing that they have a huge fault tolerance as I've -never- experienced a time where it refuses to let me play a game.

Origin, GFWL, Ubisoft crappy stuff. I had one game for each, and each platform was terrible i gave up on the game. When the "game manager" makes for a bad experience, no use playing the game.

Which is why DRM free games / companies should be supported.

While GFWL is pretty bad, with the encrypt everything, so you can't move your savegames to another machine, all game clients have issues.

Steam, Origin, Ubiplay, GameFly, Gamestop, capsule, and so on each have their own unique problems, that shouldn't be there. The problems are there since they treat everyone as a crook, and your supposed to prove your not, even if the day before you did that, and nothing else has changed.

Myself and 3 friends concur... isn't not that we love it.. we just have zero problems with it. We all play AoE Online, the Batman games, Red River and Dirt 2 and just have zero problems getting online or playing MP together.

So that's 6 ;)

Three of us. I have a few also, and so far, no problems -- but that does not mean I don't hold my breath and cross my fingers when it rears its head during the installation process (based on the horror stories I've read here and elsewhere).

Edit: my mistake, make that seven

Eight. I hate it because it adds nothing, but I never had any issues with it other than the annoyance that it's there.

I haven't had problems with it, either.

Still, software isn't flawless. Shit makes mistakes. Flying off the handle about it isn't a big deal. M$ will fix this shit.

It is a terrible piece of software. I had some minor problems here and there, but some major ones that were simply a pain the ass or just took a while. I had to totally uninstall it and reinstall and do some bullshit to get it to work when Dark Souls first came out on the PC. It was ridiculous the amount of bullshit I had to go through. Thankfully that is the last game I have purchased that used it.

You know it is pretty bad when some games are starting to retroactively remove it and add Steamworks instead. Also MS doesn't even used the horrible shit for their games anymore and just uses Steamworks lol.

I just don't buy any games that use this. I have my philosophical and logistical reasons that its a deal breaker to me. The truth is there are plenty of games and I have no time to play them so in a way it makes my decision easier by culling unnecessary products from consideration.

If I have to give up on Crysis 3 (Origin launched) then I'm going to be really bummed to have to go without all those incredible graphics and exploration. The game's playing ok so far. It's my only Origin game.

I cant post my true feeling about GFWL in this thread............it might make me explode.

Just know that I hold that software in VERY low regard.

Anyone remember when you had to pay to use its multiplayer? Had to have a gold account or something like like XBL... that crap was short lived!

Carfax, I could not agree with you more. I've already made up my mind a long time ago to never purchase a game using A) GFWL or B) SecuROM. I suggest everyone do the same. Using GFWL is simply an exercise in frustration, and don't get me started on SecuROM's 5 installation limit. Grr. I've decided long ago to vote with my wallet against such practices.
