I just started a blog but I'm a bit concerned about how possible employers will think about it if I show them it.

On one hand Wordpress is more nuts and bolt like in that I have support it, update it, and can customize it while blogspot is supported by a external source and is limited to what they offer.

That advantage with blogspot is I think it can reach more people and allow comments to be much easier because people do not have to sign up, they can use their gmail account etc..

What do you guys think?

My blog will revolve around technology. Anything from Mac, *nix, Windows to programming and databases etc...

What I think is that you don't want comments to be easier, unless you like sifting through 150 comments a week from eastern block spammers. Anyway, I use Wordpress on a server rented from Network Solutions, and I like it fine. I haven't used Blogspot, but if I didn't need the server for other reasons I'm sure I would just use a hosted service like that.

go with wordpress on your own domain.
don't worry about spam comments, they're easily tackled with akismet

So THAT was your reason for using wordpress!! Here I was trying to figure out why you would bother. (At least, I didn't notice anything remarkably different from blogger/wordpress from the stuff you post there)

Me, I use blogger, but you make a good point. If you ARE renting out some hosting space for some other reason, then wordpress makes a lot of sense.

Wordpress is also very easy to install and maintain. Most upgrades of the main package or plugins are one-click affairs, and the install is basically just copying some folders. My primary reasons for having the server are just general utility. I point my domain there, host some files, mail drops, program demos, and if I want to make something available to someone I can quickly dump it up there. It costs less than $15/month for a chunk of a linux box with all the basic goodies, 30 gigs of storage, 500 gigs of transfer (yeah, right), 1000 email boxes, ftp accounts, etc. For me it's worth it just to have these capabilities on a managed public network outside my soho environment. Makes lots of stuff easier.
