I've been looking around for an open-source diary software, and due to the lack of anything feature-full, I've decided to try out wordpress.

I've got no real experience with Wordpress, so I was hoping for some pointers. What I need to do, is install it on my PC (personal use ONLY, I don't even want it visible on the LAN). I also need to know how to take backups of it and how to restore the backups. (I seem to reformat my system every other month ... )

Wordpress is more blogging software than diary software. I mean I suppose you could use it as a diary, but it seems like overkill. Is there a reason a simple .txt file won't suffice? I can't say I have any experience installing wordpress on ubuntu.

Well, what I need is something MORE than just a diary. I want tags, I want to be able to search through my entries. ... etc.

You see I want a personal copy of my experiences with Linux (and computing in general). So apart from as a diary, it's going to server as a log too. The idea being that when I DO mess up at some point, I'll know how to recover.

Trust me, if I started using txt, well I'd get lost trying to organize everything. But on a related note, I am using Tomboy. Handy software, that. :)

Interesting link. I'll check it out when I get home and report back how things went. Thanks!
