is it possible to put a password on a word document to prevent access to the document?

I don't know. Is it? :D
I think you can encrypt, using NT on an NTFS HD, the file but I don't know if you can apply a password to it.

Go to tools/options in the menu. In the save tab there is a passwords option at the bottom
