i'm doing a lab write-up for bio and i do my routine alt-f-s to save my work and i get the wierdest message:
The disk is full or too many files are open.
i clikc ok, it asks if i want to retry the save, i click on yes and i get this message:
the disk is full trying to write to d:.... Free some space on this drive, or save the document on another disk.
Try one or more of the following:
*close any unneeded documents, programs, windows.
*save the document on another disk.

i treid saving to e,f,g,h and i got the same message too. btw, all my drive have at least 300 megs of space and i have a separate drive for swap file allocation

i have 256mb ram too...any ideas fellas? thx
win2k btw

note: i closed all windows except word and i got the same error. i even tried saving the file remotely and got the same error as well.
just 10 mins ago windows closed word because of some error so i'm worried about continuing my work and not being able to save it.

just in case anyone ever runs into this problem...what you need to do to resolve it is delete everything that's on your clipboard and you will then be able to save your documents.

Most likely you have a space issue. Do you have the swap file on the same partition that you were trying to save the document to? If so, even though you have 300MB left, that does not mean you actually have 300MB of disk space to save documents. You would need to find out how big the partition is. If you have a 1GB partition, you would only be able to use about 800MB of disk space, if it is formatted with FAT32. If you have an NTFS partition, maybe a little more. Also, I mentioned the pagefile; the OS marks some free space on whatever partition you have placed it on as unavailable to the system. But, NTFS will not display this. Only viewing the partition with a low level editor will you be able to view the actual free space correctly.

Now this is with NTFS, not FAT16, VFAT16, or FAT32.

virus? Sounds like a virus behavior, well, it's hard to say because someone said Microsoft's stuff are acting like virus.
