Word of warning never allow your Nexus 7 to run out of batteries.

Unlike other device which are able to charge and function fine even after running out of batteries, the Nexus 7 does not. If left uncharged for an extended period of time, the N7 will become unresponsive and unable to charge. When attempting to charge all you will see are flying pixels.

The only solution, which may or may not work is to repeatedly unplug and plug in the N7, and press Power + Volume Down. This however can take multiple retries, and does not always work.

Really crappy that the N7 does this.

Well you're not supposed to store lithium based batteries in a completely discharged state. Nice sob story.

While you are correct that it's not a good idea to leave lithium-ion based batteries discharged for long periods, it's not a sob story, it's a warning.

Happened to my first (or second, I don't remember, lol) N7. I was able to revive it but it started shutting off @20%. Returned, of course.

My current N7 (3G version) doesn't do that. In fact, the build quality of later N7s seems all around better than the earlier ones. And yes I blame it on Asus and Google. (more on Asus, since N4 and N10 both look better built)

You know what is funny if the IPad had this problem it would be big news, everyone would know. Google would make sure everyone knows.

This happened to me once. You can do a "hard reset" on the Nexus 7 simply by holding the power button and two volume rockers for ~30 seconds.

I plugged in in after that, and it immediately began to charge.
