It's not actually a jpeg. It's a gif that's been misnamed. Browsers are smart enough to figure out that it's a gif when they read the file, so they display it anyway.

If you want to know how to tell that it's a gif, save the image and open it in a text editor, then look at the first 6 characters of the file, that's the header for a GIF89a image.
