Word Macro for page formatting

I want to make make Word Macros (or some other auto-feature) that with the click of an icon on the toolbar, will set the styles and page setup defaults for the document.

Anyone do this before? Best way to accomplish this? I could make templates to open when starting a new document, but we have found that there are a bunch of documents that have extra style information embedded into them that we can't seem to remove, so I want to apply the margins/styles to an existing document to correct this.

I think the macro will add or change the styles I select, but there is some style information that can't be removed. If there is an option somewhere to reset all styles back to default, then maybe I could record one...

edit:

Okay I figured this out. I can create a template file for the styles that I want, then use a macro to import it via the Organizer menu that is in Styles. Then it will overwrite them.

Are you talking about making one template style for ALL documents or lots of different styles. You can change your DEFAULT style (which is your normal.dot) as follows: go into FORMAT STYLES. The window that opens changes depending on your version of Word. If you let me know what version you have, I can give you more specific instructions, but basically, you want to navigate to CUSTOM, STYLES, and from there you can do everything. You can pick your default font, your default margins, tabs, etc. THEN (and most important) make sure you select the DEFAULT checkbox before you leave this customizations. If you did it right, the next time you open a blank document, it will have all your new settings. I would not use a macro for this purpose. Now the previous was how to change your main, default normal template. I have dozens of templates--all with different margins and fonts. Just do FILE NEW TEMPLATE and create to your heart's content. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE IT AS A TEMPLATE AND NOT A DOCUMENT. To access any of the templates, go to FILE NEW and they will be there for you.
