Word/Internet Explorer Problem -- help!

In Internet Explorer, when you click on a link which links you to a Microsoft Word (or other Office) document, it opens it up directly in the browser window. What I want it to do is to open up in a regular Microsoft Word application, instead of in the browser window. Does anyone know how to do this?

Apparently, it has something to do with ActiveX, but I have no idea how to fix it so that it loads in a Microsoft Word application window.

I know how to get it to automatically prompt me to save or open, but I don't know how to get it to open automatically, but not in the browser.

Thanks in advance.
