Word from an ATI engineer.

My dad has some buisness relationships with ATI of some sort. He was talking to one of the engineers working on the r423 and he said that it would make the current 9800 XT look like trash. Now you dont have to take my word for it, but thats what he told my dad. I dont even know if I can really belive it for myself, but it'd be great if it were true.

hehe, this reminds me of the time I tried to get my friend to weasel NV40 info out of his dad (who is an engineer at IBM) back when IBM still had the NV40 production contract. Needless to say, his dad never would tell us anything

Well it better kick the crap out of the 9800XT. ATI really hasn't had any new high end hardware out in over the year (the 9700 core was the last truly new core in my opinion). I know I read something that the new NVidia core woudl more than double the performance of the high end card now.

It sure will, but the question on everyone's mind is how it will make NV40 look. Get your Dad to ask his friend that, or at least get some R423 benchmark numbers (in 3DM03 or Aquamark 3 or something new).
