Word files slow to open.

Wife uses it for work (medical transcription).
Does anyone have a suggestions on how to speed things up or any problems that may be causing word to open files so slow?

Running an antivirus app? If you have realtime scanning turned on and it's set to scan every app that opens, that could make it slower.

Also run updates for XP & Office to make sure you have the latest updates.
 
Yup, looks like you have an AV scanning the documents everytime it is opening which is making it slower.
