Word 97 page numbering

Word 97 won't number the pages of my multi page document. Instead of page numbers I get "[page]". I've searched for an answer til I'm blue in the face. Anybody know how to fix this ?

did you try printing it out? Wor dmight put [page] but actualyl print the page number. If that doen't work, make sure you do Insert > Autotext or Insert > Page or whatever you want
