Word 2013 Mixng up document formats??

Maybe it's me? I am currently working on two word docs. Each doc is using a different format. I have set each doc format to apply only to the doc I'm working on, not to "all docs" as a universal setting. However, I notice when I first open Doc A, it sometimes opens in Doc B's format and vice versa. :\ I have to open and close the doc several times before it returns to the correct format. Why is it doing this? How to fix?

Thanks,

Check your save as format before you save and close them. I use multiple documents as well when working with different formats I always check them before I save to insure that each is correct before I exit.

I am editing a friend's document which is sent to me in a different page layout (like a book with pages, but not the word read option), though he uses Word 2010. The docs on my computer are all in the print layout format (Word 2013.) Word is now converting every document on my computer into his book like format IF his book is the LAST document I've opened in word before shutting down.. And vice versa. It's as though Word is arbitrarily mixing up the two formats, regardless of the options I've set in my documents in Word's advanced settings menu. I can reformat my documents to the original form by going to web layout, then print layout at the bottom of the open doc. However, his doc loses its format for good if I do the same thing. :\

I hope this isn't too confusing to understand. I just do not understand what is going on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I also write papers on a regular basis but I use PERRLA which handles the document format for me unless I make a generic paper with word only. Is there a setting in your word 2013 that forces it to automatically change the format? I've used it before and 16 but didn't have any format issues like that. I've always been able to go back and forth with my documents without issue. If it continues you might consider trying a repair install of office and see if it clears it up.

On settings for copy/paste (in advanced settings) I have everything set to 'keep source formatting'. Where else should I look in Advanced settings that would effect formatting?
