Pfft, nothing special to you maybe but we're happy. Why would you pledge alligence if you don't care about your oath?

Well most american's don't take an oath, they're born citizens. It's a long process towards naturalization. I would think love of this country would motivate people to countinue...

I was happy before. then a few months later, I just realized it was nothing special. so what is so special about that to you or your wife? for voting?

heck, when I got the jury sermon, all I had to do was gave them a call and told them I wasn't a citizen. now, I will have to go to the court.

Well, there's always the security of the right to abode. If for some reason the country decides to deport her, now they can't 🙂

I really don't see any differences betwee being a citizen or a greencard holder except for two condition; voting and working for the US government.

I liked my greencard more than the passport in term of design. 😛

People generally don't appreciate what they don't have to work for.

Congrats to you and to your wife!

Congrats but I thought that becomes an automatic thing when you marry an American, or are you not an American Citizen either? Not that it matters if your not, just thought though if you are and your wfe was not she automaticly became one marrying you.

No, if you're not born on American soil, or to two American parents, you have to be naturalized.

I thought only one parent had to be a citizen.

Also, dont F it up like the lady who went to the court house to take the oath and she brought a gun with her!

EDIT: I checked, you are only required to have one parent be a US citizen to be Naturalised.

I was just going to edit my response and say that exact same thing. Those that were born here take things for granted way to often.

grats to your wife - I love this country, Am so glad I was born here and am PROUD to be a citizen of this great country. Agree with the leaders or not - at least you have that right to do so...

That can be true, it's a different process though. If you're born in the US you're an automatic citizen. My daughter was born in Canada, but because I'm a US citizen, we're going to apply to get her dual citizenship. Much easier for later on, if she decides to go to college in the states, or move down there for work or whatever.

She's Vietnamese, I'm Brazilian. I won't be a citizen for another 3 years 🙁 Not in time for the 2008 elections...
