At first she called me and told me she didn't get it, I really thought she didn't. I told her ok no big deal just wasn't meant to be another one will come along, and of course then she was like naw I got it. She is currently a safety manager and just got an offer from a great company in the energy sector, anyhow she is only 25 and really doing great in her career. Thought I would share.

so can you retire and be a househusband yet?

Semi-househusband now. Take care of our two babies while I'm wrapping up my doctorate. Soon enough I'll be out in the work force. I have a serious passion for my subject and I?ve always wanted to teach at the collegiate level.

How does one go about getting job offers? Traditionally one takes a resume and goes for an interview rather than the interview coming to you and asking for your resume.

Well, of course that is what took place, she was offered another position at different company with a higher salary, I guess to be more clear lol. I'm not sure how one mixes that up, but ok.

Oh ok. By 'offered' I thought it went something like this.

- "Hello, do you want a job"
- "Do I know you?"
- "Nope, just offering a job"

Not quite, at least I don't believe that is typically how it works.

What's wrong with this country? Can't a man walk down the street without being offered a job?

Sometimes, collegues in the industry will make job offers to people they know. Err, to explain: an employee here was offered a sales job from a vendor we contract with, which he took and subsequently quit. We have a no compete clause in our contracts now. I was offered a job from a guy I worked with, also through a vendor contract, who started his own company (so the no compete clause would not have applied) and wanted me to sysadmin. I didn't take it though, the place I'm at is very reliable and pays good enough, and I really know and like the people... ok, rambling. So anyway, it does happen. Come to think of it, my wife (a nurse) was also offered a job (or more specifically, asked to come and apply and pretty much guaranteed the position). But she had just started at another place like 2 weeks before and doesn't want to "job-hop."
