My parents have a faster computer than you, & I had to buy/build it for them.

:p

I first topped 1 GHz by OCIng a P3 700, I ran it for a while at 1007.

Now I'm bitching because I'm not over 3 yet.

It's all downhill from here, now that you have over 1 GHz you'll want two, three, etc.

Yes....why would that be a problem?

With a BIOS flash (Done) it supports up to a 2200 XP.

You seem to ignore the fact that w/o DDR RAM this upgrade is useless. You'll notice zero difference in performance. You need to purchase DDR and a new motherboard with updated chipset. That's what upgrading is about. You got to replace everything.

GIANT NOT TRUE

I have a XP 1700 and two 256mb PC133 CAS2 sticks and this thing is doing just fine... You think I wouldn't see a difference if I downgraded to a AMD 850 ...

Agreed. Yes, you will want DDR eventually, but for now PC133 is just fine.

You will definitely notice the difference, and you will notice even more when you upgrade to a nice dual channel DDR board in the future.

good IDE Controller and Hard Drive along with a good video card are also VERY important

Hey I was just joking. Of course there will be some increase. Just don't take it too serious. Didn't want to upset you, anyway. I don't think it's important to have the fastest computer, but it's way more important what it can be used for. As I read somewhere, 'power in nothing without control'.

No offense to anyone, but I think a lot of you are missing the point (If I'm wrong, please explain why).

The XP CPU may run on a KT133 mobo w/a bios flash, but it wont "RUN" correctly. It'll only be on a 100FSB, only be using SDR memory, etc. It's not worth it, IMHO.

My Athlon 850 had been running at 1030 until recently, but now it wont get much higher than 980.

No, this board will do 133 FSB....

Thought you were talking about RAM
I allready have a gig of ram. 2X 512 pc133

I very recently upgraded from a Duron 700mhz to a P4 2.4Ghz.
I had a lot more RAM in the old machine, though, so I honestly don't see a lot of speed difference most of the time.

It will? Oh....welll.....then you're going to be OK> :) You won't have the memory bandwith that DDR offers, but it will be a noticeable speed increase for you. Much faster CPU speed, and an additional 33% FSB bandwith.

Congrats and good luck.

A7V133 is KT133A, which had full 133 FSB support.

Not the ideal Athlon XP platform, but he will get 133 FSB (and SDRAM) in all it's glory.

I have 700Mhz Duron @ 840MHz + 384megs of SDRAM and GF2 GTS. I will later this year upgrade to either Prescott of Athlon 64 and at least 1 gig of RAM and R400 or NV-equivalent. The difference is performance should be pretty obvious :D

Yep, that was one of the best KT133A boards out there, I could hit 147mhz FSB with it with a 1.4GHz @ 1.65GHz T-bird (fastest thing around back then lol).

I've read there might be problems with faster CPUs unless you have board rev. 1.5 or later though.

My mobo is the same one I used back when I had a Celeron 366. Now I'm running a Celeron 1.4 GHz.

Cost:

BIOS flash: $0
Adapter: $20
CPU: $60

We use that exact box (it's a Dell, right?) as a fileserver at work and that little box just screams! It's also got a 10K SCSI, so that helps.

I was one of the first to break the 1Ghz barrier. Bought a POS Gateway 1Ghz Athlon the day it came out way back when.

Now I've got a Athlon 1700XP and a OCed 950 Duron right next to each other. I'm not into the Ghz race anymore. It's not worth the price. I'm satisfied getting 30+ FPS in my games and don't need 200+FPS.

I think my next upgrade will be my last for a while. I mean, it will be more than adequate for games for years to come. And it could be that even I will move more and more to concoles, leaving PC to games like Master of Orion 3 and the like. And I would assume they don't need ultra-fast computers, just lots of RAM (like SimCity 4).
