They are in chapter 11 bankruptcy, not chapter 7, and at least partially due to bogosity at their parent corporation rather than their own problems. Hard to say if they will survive to make it out of chapter 11 in this economy - especially since they are privately held, so you can't see their balance sheet. However, they are a big operation and are still coming out with new products - like the instant printer that they released a couple of weeks ago - so it is unlikely that the warranty would go away that quickly...

Polaroid is just a shell of what it used to be. i think that the brand is still used on products (a bunch of cheap products at that) but there isnt much of a company left

Yes and no. They have a shell to support it, but as stated before, it is not the company it used to be. They are coming back, but I am not sure they will. I have a Polaroid 1601A I purchased through woot 2 years ago now. It isn't a top quality unit, but for $100 I knew that.

Polaroid as anyone remembers it is long gone. This is just a shell company which milks the last few dimes out of the Polaroid name. You can buy Polaroid batteries, Polaroid standard cameras, Polaroid light bulbs, Polaroid TV sets and more. And none of them have anything to do with "Polaroid". It is just a name sold for use.

They even put a stop to making instant film last year!

So now Fuji has announced that they are introducing an instant camera in the US.

Meanwhile, the former employees are still trying to make up for lost pension money and and Employee Stock Ownership Plan which cost most employees tens of thousands of dollars. This latest round of financial shenanigans, layoffs, CEO bonuses and raises, and outright fraud is nothing new. Polaroid learned to do it years ago.

This product is not made by Polaroid. It may be just fine! But don't have any illusions about getting any service on it. At a cheap enough price, it could still be a good deal.
