Lots of people are complaining about how this breaks - just an FYI.

Thanx for the 411, do you have a link by any chance we could post to show potential buyers?

Easist way to read them - click on "Discuss This Product" on your link above. Read what people are saying.

It's a good deal, still - I got one, it include a 6' HDMI cable... I saw a lot of good comments from people who have it.

I've had it a few months and have seen no issues but I'm not using HDMI connection and I've heard that some that do get some hesitation now and again using it when they upconvert the signal.

What is a 'Woot Off'? I have bought from Woot before (just recently), and I have seen 'Woot Off' threads before, but I don't know what the requirements are to make something a 'Woot Off'. Please expain.

From woot FAQ:
I see some orange flashing lights on the main page ? what do they mean?
No, you aren't seeing a side effect from your allergy medication. You have found a Woot-Off, a short term frenzied mutation of our product posting procedure. In Woot-Off mode, a new product is launched immediately after the sellout of the previous deal. There is a half-Woot-life of 12 hours maximum on any product within a Woot-Off that does not sell out. The number of Woot-Off items, sequence, and quantity will not be announced. When Woot-Off mode is over, the orange lights will disappear and our normal schedule will resume. Depending on its success, this may be a mode we would go into once or twice a month for a relatively short duration of time (24-72 hours generally.)

I actually bought one of these from woot a couple months ago and it works great. Plays burned Xvid DVDs, nice picture. It may not be the top of the pile, but if your just looking for something that works and plays all your divx/xvid files, it's a good bet.

I bought one of these from woot a few months ago too, no problems with it. Haven't had the skipping problem people complain about, upscans to 1080i just fine, plays DIVX movies (and similar codecs) which is awesome for saving time and discs, and best of all, it was dirt cheap.

Hope you're right, frankgomez75! You've talked me into ordering the Bravo. The reviews [NE? Amazon?] of the Toshiba were grimly negative [as has been the case with a number of the WOOT items I've looked into].

When they say it plays divx does that mean it can handle most other formats also? Someone mentioned xvid wich seems similar so thats a good start. What about wma, wmf, ogg h.254?? etc etc etc. I have maybe a dozen types of media. What are my odds on this unit? As good as on the phillips I see around for $50-$70?

This product gave me diarrhea. My brother got cholera, my mom got the measles and my sister broke her arm. Soon after, we lost a wagon wheel and a thief stole 3 oxen.

Here's something I'm sure you'll be interested in:

Region-free and Macrovision-free Bravo D1 HACK!

Which is:

RIGHT-DOWN-LEFT-UP-ENTER-1.

And this THREAD shows you how to "Enter the secret menu for "Custom Resolution" pixel-mapped output" :)

Which is:

* SETUP on the remote.
* DOWN to Video Setting
* RIGHT to DVI OUT.
* Key in 9713 on the remote.
* Input the custom settings.
* ENTER to accept.
* SETUP to exit the setup menu.

From the AVS Forums:

You can also set a custom 1280x720 pixel-map output. It plays virtually everything!

The D1 has a $2 capacitor in the power supply that will fail - unfortunately, they got a batch of defective caps from the manufacturer. That's why a $200 player is being sold for $35!

It takes 15 minutes to change and the unit can provide the best SD DVD PQ you have ever seen.

Wow... Nice work, frankgomez75 !! That Capacitor replacement looks like a Snap -- 'more effort to find the 1000uF cap' than to install it. [I was surprised to note that RatShack carries that cap' and will ship them to you local store for <$2 + $5.50s/h -- s/h to their own store!!! First I've seen THAT.]

[If you don't succeed with your WTB, consider http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=HDMI+DVI for that HDMI/DVI cable -- great resellerratings and good prices. I haven't used them, yet.]

Edit: Dropped by a local RatShack and they had the necessary 1000uF 35WVDC cap in stock for $2.00 -- no ordering needed. The radial (twin-leads off one-end) version has only about 20% of the volume of the axial (each-end has a wire) version; why on Earth such a size discrepancyt??? Oh well, as I promised the RS staff, I forgot something: the copper braid for wicking out the old solder. Note: As places advertise these caps for $3/100 and for $.10 apiece, better prices than RS might be found.
