What kind of work do you do?

For most of us that are serious about PCs, our home computers far surpass our work computers.

$2300 for that? I'm guessing 90% of that is going towards a premium cpu and some seriously overpriced ram.

Agreed, the hard drive is worth about $50, and the vid card is nothing to write home about.

I'm not paying for it, I'm just using it.

Yeah well I would secretly replace the X300 with something with a bit more *oomph* for some after-hours gaming.

Then you can text all your frags with "My 4GB RAM PWNS j00!!!" or something like that.

I know, but it's still such waste.

They could have ordered you a 3.4Ghz and upgraded the ram themselves and given you a $1000 raise.

why the hell do you need 4GB of ram?

Cut down the ram to 1GB, the CPU to 3.4GHz, and I bet the price is less than 1000

Holy crappy CPU and video card, batman!

I mean, if you were doing video encoding, a Pentium-4 makes sense, but for WEB development? Do they realize you can get an Athlon64 that's twice as fast for half as much? And FOUR GIGABYTES of ram!?

Dell doesn't sell AMD machines.

I wish they did, it would help their stock price :(

people are retarded seriously.

why must you insist that INTEL sucks AMD roxors. when obviously its a Dell, obviously its what seems to be a Gov't contract or some sort. he gets 4 hour support on site. and the only bad thing i see on that computer is the 800mhz FSB

RelaxTheMind: yea it prolly has a server to save the work to.... that would be the obvious point.

Tell the boss you'll get something cheaper that'll do the job and you get half of what you saved by NOT getting that Dell.

after previously doing purchasing for my IT department at a job i left over a year ago, we paid less than that amount (each) for 4 computers with the same specs. the only thing that raises the cost for yours is 4gb of ram. i'm not sure why you'd EVER need that much with today's software programs....
