Woot! New Job, Same Line of Work

BigJ

Let me preface this by saying yes, I am a college student, it is not that much money I'll be making, and it is not the ideal job. But I enjoy it, so oh well.

So I saw an ad for a Counter Staff opening at a local Pizzeria (back before college I worked at one for 4 years doing everything from waiting, delivering, prep-guy, to counter) and I went down there for an interview. Turns out the guy is from a couple of towns over where I used to live (lived on Long Island, now going to school at UMD), knows my city, and went to the college I'm going to now. So basically the interview went really well, he's willing to give me the same pay as back in NY, says I have a job for the Fall Semester if I want it, and he'll even teach me how to make pizzas ($++).

So yes, even though its <$10 an hour, I'm in a line of work I enjoy (especially the interaction with customers, for the most part), everyone seems nice, and it looks like I'll have a job for awhile if there's no major fvck-ups. So yea, I'm pretty happy right now.

What are you majoring in? Since you seem to enjoy pizza, I'm wondering if it's anything related to cooking and/or running a restaurant.

Heh, I'm actually majoring in Comp Sci. But at my old pizza place in NY, I had an absolute awesome time working at it, and I like interacting with people at work. My old job was a hastle at times, but a great learning experience and good overall, which is why I stuck with it for 4 years. I guess maybe not so much as liking just the pizza industry, as just the satisfaction when customers are happy, and when they're friendly. For some reason it just makes me happy when I make other people happy.

That's pretty cool. It's not very often that you see someone enjoy Customer Service. I've been in customer service for almost 4 years now and I have the grey hairs to prove it (and I'm only 22 😛)

Nothing like a job you ENJOY doing.

Your customer friendlyness and attitude will get you far in any CS orientated/ people job you get 🙂
